Transformers

Transformers in outdoor systems are an important part of our industry to ensure the supply of electricity. Transformer oil is used as a coolant for these system components. The transformers could be damaged by external influences (lightning strikes, etc.) and the leaking oil could contaminate the groundwater. For this reason, a concrete drip tray is installed under the transformers to contain any leaking transformer oil as well as rainwater and extinguishing water in the event of incidents and possible leaks.

To smother the flames in the drip tray in the event of a fire, these are covered with special transformer coverings. Lichtgitter offers two different variants.

Energy operators use mineral oil to cool and insulate the units in switchgear and substations. To prevent the oil from penetrating the ground and contaminating it in the event of an accident, oil drip pans are usually installed underneath the units. Due to the relatively low flash point of the oil and the high operating temperature, ignition cannot be ruled out. To limit and reduce combustion in the oil drip pans, which in the past were usually covered with a 20 cm layer of gravel, fire-retardant and flame-retardant coverings are now used.
