Home | From gray to green
Around 90 percent of our CO2 emissions (Scope 3) are generated during the production of the most important base material for our Gratings: steel production. We can only indirectly influence this process upstream of our own value creation
– for example, by focusing our attention on CO2-reduced steel and supporting the production of green steel.
We have reached agreements with our long-standing partners – our steel suppliers. We have been able to source CO2-reduced steel since 2023 and offer our customers Gratings made from this material. Capacities for steel production without the use of coal are currently being created on a larger scale. From 2027, for example, decarbonized steel from a new hydrogen-based direct reduction plant will be available from Europe’s largest steel site in Duisburg.
At Lichtgitter, we are following developments closely and supporting the transformation process to the best of our ability. However, structural changes within the entire industry are required in order to achieve an impact and noticeably reduce CO2 emissions. Many players need to pull together here. We are ready for this and are facing up to this challenge together with our partners.
Our journey to greater responsibility continues – you can find more insights here.
